The technical and service areas are located forward on cabin deck and occupy the all the lower deck with technical areas aft and crew facilities forward. Since TATOOSH was built for world cruising, crew and technical areas were designed to ensure maximum comfort, ease of maintenance and good storage.
The engine room is split across two decks. The ECR and the upper engine room are amidships on cabin deck while the lower engine room and workshop are on the lower deck aft. All areas are spacious and offer excellent access for maintenance and good storage.
TATOOSH completed her 20-year survey in 2021. During the survey, all key machinery and equipment was either serviced, overhauled and repainted including the main engines, generators, gearboxes, rudders and steering gear and the bow and stern thruster. A complete list of works in the in the specifications.
Access to lower engine room
TATOOSH is powered by two slow turning DEUTZ-MWM diesel engines with Visco Masse rubber mounts. She can reach 16 knots and cruises at 12.5 knots with an almost 7,000nm range.
Deutz engines were installed on account of their straight-forward and proven design which ensures high reliability, long engine life and extra- long TBOs.
Maintenance work is required only after many operating hours and can be done quickly without extended downtime. Low fuel consumption makes for low operating costs and low exhaust emissions make for a cleaner environment. In addition, each of the three main generators has a Unikat catalytic convertor for clean exhaust gas out through the funnel stacks.
The propeller shaft
TATOOSH is equipped with Blohm & Voss, Simplex/Compact Stabilizers, underway only. They are located in their own separate watertight rooms, port and starboard. The 3m2 fins are retractable and are fitted with hydraulic trim tabs. The extension and retraction time is 90 seconds.
TATOOSH accommodates up to 31 crew. Crew areas include a large crew mess and separate TV room on the cabin deck plus eight cabins. There are three crew cabins on the lower deck and another crew mess. All crew cabins have en suite bathrooms. The large galley with a chef’s office is on cabin deck and there is ample storage including a large walk-in freezer, cold storage and a bonded storage locker on the lower deck plus the laundry facilities.
